8 Little Diet Mistakes That Can Make You Fat ...

Whether you’re just starting a new diet, or you’ve been dieting for months now, you could be making some old diet mistakes that make you fat, not skinny! And that’s the opposite of what you want, right? So what are these costly diet mistakes that are making you fat, and how can you avoid them? Keep reading…

1. Skipping Meals

(Your reaction) Thank you!

This may sound counter-intuitive, but you won’t lose weight any faster if you skip meals… in fact, you might find that you eat MORE when you skip meals! First of all, your metabolism will work more efficiently (in high gear!) when you eat small meals throughout the day. Second, if you starve yourself by skipping meals, you’ll be more inclined to stuff yourself later, and you’ll be more likely to choose high-calorie foods when you finally do eat. So don’t skip meals! This is such a big diet mistake that will make you fat!

2. Dining out

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Why is dining out one of the dieting mistakes with make you fat? Because most restaurants serve two meals on one plate. I’m not kidding! One serving of chicken ought to be about the size of a deck of cards… but remember the last time you had chicken marsala at a restaurant? It was HUGE… at least two servings of chicken! If you still want to dine out, just ask for half of your meal to be boxed to go before it’s even delivered to your table, so you won’t be tempted to over-indulge.

3. Deleting Carbs

(Your reaction) Thank you!

With the popularity of the Atkins and other similar diets, you’d think that deleting carbs would be a good idea, but this is another of the top diet mistakes that will make you fat… and terribly unhealthy. For example, fiber is a carb, and your digestive system and brain absolutely won’t function well without it.

4. Rationalizing

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Hey, you dieted all day yesterday, so you deserve that slice of strawberry cheesecake for dessert, right? Wrong. Rationalizing your diet mistakes won’t actually mitigate them, so don’t try it. Diets only work if you eat well every day. If you’re craving a sweet treat, enjoy some fresh fruit instead.

5. Drinking Diet Soda

(Your reaction) Thank you!

The entire world gasped in unison when the University of Texas Health Center at San Antonio announced the finding of one of their latest studies: that people who drink diet soda actually GAIN more than 40% more weight than people who don’t drink diet soda. The explanation is complicated, but the results have been upheld through peer research, so don’t make this diet mistake that makes you fat! Skip soda altogether.

6. Whole Dairy

(Your reaction) Thank you!

We girls desperately need calcium, so most of us try to eat or drink plenty of dairy… but this can actually be one of the biggest diet mistakes that make you fat. Rather than drinking whole milk, or indulging in whole fat cheese or yoghurt, swap for reduced fat, like 2% milk and cheese or yoghurt made with low-fat milk. You’ll still get the calcium and vitamin D, but without the extra calories from fat.

7. Ignoring Labels

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Almost everything we all eat has a nutrition label on it… but most of us never even look at them! Check the labels on everything you put in your mouth… first, look at the overall calorie count, and see how many of them come from fat and sugar. Also, look to see what the ingredients are… if you can’t pronounce any of them, or if there are more than 6 of them, this may not be the right food for you to eat.

8. Not Counting Condiments and Drinks

(Your reaction) Thank you!

If you’re dieting, chances are, you’re counting your calories… but if you’re not counting all of your calories, including the ones in your condiments and drinks, then you’re making a diet mistake that will make you fat. In short, if you’re counting calories, make sure to count ALL of them.

Now that you know the dieting mistakes that make you fat, you can finally stop making them and lose that last five pounds, right? I know I used to forget to count the calories in my drinks and in my condiments, but now that I remember, I’m losing weight again! Which of these dieting mistakes have you made, and how did you fix it? Or is there another common diet mistake we ought to know about? Please share!
