But which ones are worth downloading for free, or even more importantly, coughing up your hard-earned cash for? I can help! I’ve downloaded and used dozens of diet apps, some helpful, other horrid. Here are 8 fantastic diet apps you’ll love.
1 Diet & Fitness Tracker by SparkPeople
If you're a SparkPerson, then you already know how marvelously helpful and inspiring the SparkPeople website is. This free diet app links to your online SparkPeople account, and includes all of the same things you love on the site. I especially like the inspirational quote of the day.
2 Weight Watchers Mobile

I have several friends and family who have had great success with the Weight Watchers program, and one component of that program is this free app. I love the recipes feature, and also the fact that the app includes all aspects of the Points Plus program.
3 Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker by MyFitnessPal
I am seriously in love with this diet app. Why, you ask? Because it's remarkably easy to use, and because it includes so many different foods! What good is a calorie counter if it's not loaded with thousands of foods?
4 Calorie Tracker by LIVESTRONG.COM
Here's another calorie counter, but it's sort of an upgraded diet app, since it's also a calorie tracker. That's right — this app is an advanced calorie journal, helping you track not just calories, but the sources of calories, and it even includes restaurant food!
5 Eat This, Not That! the Game
I absolutely love this game. It challenges me to always think in terms of what I ought to be eating, versus what I ought to avoid. This is more than a game, I guess, then... it's also an educational tool!
6 MyPlan – the Special K Challenge Mobile App
With this free diet app in your pocket, and a little willpower, you can have success with your 2-week Kellogg Special K Challenge, you're almost guaranteed success. It's easy to use, and it really can help keep you motivated and on the right track.
7 21-Day Vegan Kickstart
Forget lugging around big, expensive cookbooks. This one little app, available for free, is one of my favorite diet apps, because girl, it has the easiest, tastiest recipes, all available at the tap of a button. I love that they're all arranged in a 21-day vegan program, too. Hooray!
8 The Snack App
Got the munchies, but not sure what you want, or what your healthiest choice would be? This app helps you choose a snack to match your craving, salty or sweet or creamy or cheesy, late-night or on-the-go... I love it! I can't even count how many times this app has helped me make an excellent snack choice.
9 Lose It!
I love the promise of this diet app... according to its blurb, their average user has lost 12 pounds, and 85% of them have lost at least some weight. Will it work? It's free, so why not try it and see?
