1. Make Time for You
Making time for yourself is one of the best tips for eating well, especially in your 30s. I know you’re super busy and feel like you’re being pulled in a million different directions, but part of eating right and taking care of yourself is carving out a few minutes each day for you and only you. Those 15 minutes you spend making lunch for yourself maybe seem inconvenient or stressful, but years from now you’ll reap the rewards and realize the time you spent was a great investment in your health. Making time for you is a key first step to eating better in your 30s. Realize that you are worth a healthy lifestyle!
2. Prepare Meals Ahead of Time
I always tell clients that if they don’t plan their meals ahead of time, chances are they won’t eat right. Binging and unhealthy eating aren’t planned events—they happen sporadically and sneak up on you. Planning meals on a daily or weekly basis is a great way to make sure you eat healthy consistently. Try making meals over the weekend that you can enjoy throughout the week. This way there’s no excuse to not eat well. The food is already prepared!
3. Get Your Whole Family Involved
Don’t think that you’re trying to eat healthy all by yourself. Make it a family affair and get the whole family involved! Getting your family to eat right poses multiple benefits. For starters, you won’t have to be a short order cook making separate meals for your family and other healthy meals yourself. You’ll also have a much healthier and happier family. Save time and money by cooking healthy for everyone!
4. Take Advantage of Your Freezer
Was work canceled because of a snow day? Or did you run into some unexpected free time? Take advantage of the time and start cooking and freezing! You can make soups, sauces, meatballs, chili, casseroles, and all sorts of other meals that freeze great and can easily be prepared on a moment’s notice. Try going online for some inspiration on the kinds of meals you can make. Imagine coming home from work and only having to heat up a homemade hearty meat sauce because you made it the week before!
5. Buy in Bulk
Sometimes eating better can be expensive. Instead of buying overpriced versions of your favorite health foods at a grocery store, try buying your food in bulk from a wholesale food store. A lot of times these wholesale food stores carry just as much healthy and organic food as your local supermarket. I recommend stocking up on organic whole grains and organic meats at these stores. Grains will last a long time in your pantry, and you can freeze meat when it’s on sale.
6. Fall in Love with Green Smoothies
Smoothies are one of the top foods I recommend for busy women in their 30s. They’re fast, easy to prepare, and don’t require a ton of preparation or clean up. There are also a ton of different recipes you can try to keep from getting bored. Try adding greens like spinach, kale, and swiss chard to give your smoothies a giant dose of antioxidants and other nutrients. If you’re super busy in the mornings, try putting your smoothie together the night before and leaving it in the fridge. Come morning all you’ll have to do is blend it and your breakfast is ready!
7. Don’t Stress
At the end of the day, we’re all going to have moments where we overeat or didn’t have time to make a healthy meal. Remember that eating well isn’t a sprint—it’s a lifelong marathon. If you overindulge at a restaurant or social event, don’t stress about it! We’re all human and have slipups. The important thing is to make the best of your situation, pick yourself up, and get back on track.
There might be times where it’s challenging to stay on track or tempting to eat a convenient fast food meal, but eating well in your 30s is essential to lifelong health. With these simple tips and tricks, you’ll have no excuse to not eat right even with a hectic schedule. What are some of your best ways for eating well in your 30s?
