1. Consider Your Goals

The most important tip on how to find a diet that's right for you is considering your goals. Not everybody is after the same thing; some of us look to shed some pounds, some of us look to tone up in some area and, others aim to get fit and healthy. Depending on what you’re goal is, you can find a diet that is tailored to your needs and can help you successfully reach any goal you may have in no time!

2. Consider Your Lifestyle

Are you a girl on the go or do you live a more slow-paced lifestyle? As a girl on the go, it’s a lot harder to stick to a strict regimen of eating, and you can forget counting calories! Who has the time? If you’re a girl on the go like myself, look for a more flexible diet that allows you a little room to still enjoy some of the things you love. These kinds of diets are easy to fit into your schedule and are more forgiving, so you’re more likely to stick to them.

3. Consider Your Budget

Some diets can be pretty pricey! It’s no secret that healthier food options can cost more than some of the more unhealthy options out there. Some diets work by creating specific meal plans to follow that be considerably costly. If you’re on a budget, opt for a more affordable diet plan that requires no fancy meal plans but rather one that gives you an array of options to choose from. You’ll find that the more affordable diets are just as effective at helping you achieve your goal.

4. Find What Motivates You

Are you one of those people who are self-motivated or do you need a little extra push from someone or something else? Some diets work better if done with a friend or with daily meetings such as Weight Watchers. If you’re one of those people who need a little outside motivation, these kinds of diets would be perfect for you and can help you stay on track with your goals. Now for my self-motivated gals, practically any diet will suit your needs, just remember to stay motivated!

5. Do Your Own Research

The internet is a great resource for discovering a diet just right for you. Do be mindful of fad diets, as they can actually do more harm to your body than good. Keep in mind this when considering trying a new diet: usually if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

6. Seek Help from Professionals

Sometimes we need a little extra help, it’s true. Seek help from your regular doctor or a specialized dietitian or nutritionist to pinpoint your specific diet concerns. Their advice can be a major factor in finding a diet that will actually deliver the results you desire the most.

7. Find One That’s Enjoyable for You

The hardest part of any diet is sticking to it. If you’re considering starting a diet, aim to find one that seems enjoyable to you; the less it feels like a chore the greater your chances are to sticking to your diet. Look for diets that have food options that you aren’t allergic to and that you find tasty. There’s nothing worse than feeling trapped in a diet where the food options aren’t both healthy and tasty.

There’s plenty of diets out there, and sometimes it can be hard to weed out the ones that seem too good to be true and the diets that are actually beneficial. The bottom line is, a diet is the first step to achieving a healthy lifestyle for yourself and finding the right one may be easier than you think! What are your health goals for 2014?
