1

Schedule Carbs

One of the oldest diet tricks I’ve heard of is to eat carbs before noon only. If you want to eat bread or pasta, schedule it for breakfast or lunch and keep carbs off your plate after noon. Reportedly this is one of the ways Pamela Anderson stayed in such great shape when she was on Baywatch and it’s a diet trick endorsed by feisty trainer Bob Harper also!

2

Sour Shot

Many people swear by drinking apple cider vinegar as their secret weapon to keep them lean and lovely. While it might seem like an odd habit to take on, even registered dietitian Joy Bauer agrees with this diet trick! She states that taking a tablespoon or two of vinegar before lunch or dinner can help increase fullness.

3

Eat!

Skipping meals does not equal weight loss! It’s important that you eat healthy meals instead of blowing off a meal and thinking it’s a quick way to cut down on calories. The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found that those who eat meals regularly lost an average of eight more pounds per year than those who skipped meals!

4

Write It down

Another tried and true diet trick for weight loss is to keep a food journal. As tedious and boring as it might seem, a food journal helps you keep track of every little morsel you eat, so if you’re not losing any weight, you can see if you need to cut back on a certain type of food or on portions. The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics also found that those who kept a journal lost an average of six more pounds than those who didn’t!

5

Picture This

According to Dr. Robert Maurer of the California Health and Longevity Institute, picturing yourself fit and thinking of that image when a craving occurs will help replace and tame the craving. It’s definitely worth a try! Picture yourself at your ideal weight or fitness level and tuck it away for when you’re facing a craving.

Rest Less

We all like to take a quick breather in between our workouts but this is a reminder to keep them quick. In line with what fitness expert Jillian Michaels says, don’t take breaks longer than 30 seconds in between exercises to dramatically boost calorie burn while you work out. The next time you’re tempted to take an extended break, think of that image of you at your goal weight and keep it going!

7

Add Weights

Another awesome diet trick to keep in mind when you’re exercising is to add arm exercises, light weights or both to burn even more calories. Celebrity trainer Jeannette Jenkins, who’s worked with P!nk, Kelly Rowland, Queen Latifah and many others, recommends adding weights to a treadmill workout for maximum calorie burn!

8

Postpone Cravings

Dr. Jim Nicolai of Integrative Wellness Program at the Miraval Resort suggests postponing cravings for another day in the future when you’re free to eat whatever you crave. It’s tough to resist a craving when you have a “now or never” mentality. Tell yourself that you can have it, you’ll just have it later and it can help you get past the craving and make healthier choices.

9

Walk It off

Schedule a walk after each meal to burn some calories! Bob Wright, Director of Education at the Hilton Head Health Spa, recommends taking a 15-minute walk after every meal. You’ll end up walking 45 minutes total for the day, which will burn a fast and easy 100 calories! It might not seem like much but it sure adds up!

10

Eat in Order

An easy way to fill up on the healthy stuff is to eat your food in order. Registered dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner suggests making vegetables the focal point on your plate. That way, you’re eating more of the lower calorie and high nutrient foods but you still get to enjoy other foods on your plate, just in smaller portions! The next time you go out for a meal, try ordering a small side salad first or eating all the veggies on your plate before moving on to the other foods.

I hope you try out some of these simple diet tricks to help make weight loss a little easier for you! A huge part of weight loss is mental, so if you can put mind over matter, you’ve already won half the battle! Do you have any diet tips or tricks that helped you shed the pounds?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I think the problem with carbs is that it's too easy to eat too many of them. Carbohydrates are found in more than just grains, theyre in fruits, veggies

I just got so sick or writing it down

Wow these seem like really simple things to do. I'll be giving them a try! Thanks!!!

The Atkins diet is also sky high in fat though, which is not healthy. Everything in moderation.

I don't get how cutting carbs after noon helps with weight loss? Anyone wanna explain please? :)

Great tips :)

I agree with most of these. I can't see how cutting out carbs, an essential nutrient for producing blood glucose (your brain's only source of food) and giving you energy should be limited to the morning. Carbs should be eaten plentifully. Eat more whole grains. I mean a piece of whole grain bread is around 100 calories. Not a whole lot so it shouldn't be difficult to eat your carbs. But make sure they are whole grain breads and pastas, add fruit and legumes and there you go!

I found apps are great to use to write things down and add up while I was there! Really not sure about the carbs thing - although I was told to stay away from Atkins as can cause MAJOR kidney probs. good article with some great tips

Carbs are not essential as the Atkins Diet has proven . It's perfectly ok to exist on 20 gr of carbs a day
