Healthy fats from plants - mainly monounsaturated are where you get your healthy fats from. A good percentage to follow is 15% green vegetables, 15% healthy proteins and at least 70% healthy fats. Quick! What is the most damaging thing for your heart? Saturated fat? Well, that is bad for sure, but in fact, it’s nasty sugar. See there is good sugar and bad sugar. Good sugar comes from things like zucchini, apples, and even raw, organic honey. Bad sugar comes from things like pastries, juice, and flavored yogurt.
Unless you’re a cancer fighter, you don’t have to totally avoid bread. However, choose Ezekiel bread over other bread such as rye, wheat, multigrain, and especially white. Multigrain bread is alright to use occasionally. What about wraps? Well, 100% whole wheat wraps are fine, but again only occasionally. You need to check spinach wraps. Some companies use false advertising and their spinach wraps contain no spinach, but just food coloring to make them green.
Not all oils are equal. Extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil are three great oils to use. Avoid soybean oil and canola oil.
Cook scrambled eggs on low heat using either avocado oil or grass-fed butter. Add all sorts of vegetables such as green peppers or top it with salsa to make huevos rancheros. Eat it with an avocado.
Another option is to put eggs and avocados together. Preheat your oven to 450 F. Take a large avocado and cut it in half. Scoop out some of the flesh just to make enough room for an egg and eat the delicious avocado flesh. Throw the pit out. Crack an egg into the hole of each avocado. Sprinkle with some fresh lime juice, sea salt, pepper, and chopped cilantro. Bake for 10 minutes and take out with the yolk still runny.
If you’ve tried Pad Thai you know how lip-smacking good it is. Yet the noodles are quite naughty for you and add to your belly fat. Why not make it with zoodles? Zoodles are zucchini noodles. Spiral out some zucchini noodles and cook them for about 7 to 10 minutes using sea salt. Take out the zoodles and put them in a big skillet or wok. Using healthy oil, like extra virgin olive oil, put some in and move the skillet around to coat it. Add in the zoodles, a dash of cayenne pepper, two cloves of chopped garlic, 2 tbsps of lime juice from a fresh lime, one chopped bell pepper, two eggs lightly whisked, 2 green onions chopped, 1/2 a cup of roasted peanuts and the only naughty thing - a few dashes of soy sauce. Skip the brown sugar and oyster or fish sauce. You don’t need it and brown sugar has no nutritional value.
Whether you make zoodles or just chop zucchini, steam it until tender. Preheat your oven to 375 F. Make turkey meatballs with organic ground turkey, one egg, a sprinkle of garlic powder (organic and from the USA), Italian bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, and Italian dressing. Mix with your hands until you can firmly roll them into balls. Put aluminum foil on a baking sheet and put the turkey meatballs on top. Cook for forty-five minutes and then check if done.
Instead of a taco shell or tortilla use large romaine lettuce leaves. Fill them with black beans, shredded organic turkey or chicken, avocado, onions, and lettuce. Top with salsa. Serve with barley or brown rice.
Couscous, brown rice, barley, dark chocolate, salmon, trout, sardines, herring, nuts, and full fat plain Greek yogurt.
You don’t need to follow one cuisine, but a Mediterranean diet is full of healthy foods. However, it’s suggested to avoid or only occasionally eat red meat. Be sure your red meat comes only from a local, small family farm. Red meat from a factory farm is usually raised in terrible conditions, is completely unhealthy, and factory farms are the biggest culprits of environmental disaster.
