1. Yoghurt
Plain yoghurt is a year-round healthy diet food, but for some reason, I love it most in the Fall. I’m lately most in love with Greek yoghurt… it’s rich and smooth and good for you!
2. Apples
Fall means brilliant leaves, and ripe red and green and gold apples to match! Apples are one of my favorite healthy diet foods. They contain healthful amounts of fiber, potassium, beta carotene, vitamin A, and lutein. And they’re crunchy and sweet! Pick your own at a local orchard, and see which varieties you like best.

3. Oatmeal Cookies
Why not? Oatmeal cookies, when prepared properly, can be a healthful choice, while still indulging your sweet tooth! Make them yourself, rather than buying them pre-packaged to avoid all of the nasty additives, and enjoy two of them right out of the oven with a tall glass of cold skim milk — yum!
4. Grilled Chicken and Veggie Kabobs
Get a serving of lean protein and fresh vegetables with a skewer full of chicken, bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes! Marinate the chicken in low-cal, low-fat Italian dressing, microwave the veggies for 30 seconds, then grill them to perfection… these kabobs make great party dishes for all of your Fall tailgate parties, too!
5. Squash and Zucchini
If your garden is anything like mine, you’ve got dozens of squashes and zucchinis about ready to ripe, and since they’re loaded with all sorts of vitamins, add them to your list of healthy diet foods for Fall! Prepare them with a little basil and low-fat feta for a side dish supreme, or grill them with a little sea salt for a change. Tasty!

6. Tomato-Mozzarella Mini-Pizza
Hit the garden again to harvest another of my early Fall faves, tomatoes! Dice them, toss them with a little mozzarella and fresh basil, then add to a little bit of French bread dough (low-cal if you can find it) and bake til brown and toasty. So good, and much better for you than take-out or delivery pizza.
7. Grilled Fish with Low-Cal Peach Coleslaw
Coleslaw, made yourself, can be a great low-cal side, and combined with a small piece of grilled fish (with lemon), can make an entire healthy diet-friendly meal! My favorite peach slaw recipe is at epicurious.com … search for it, play with it until you love it, and voila!
8. Hummus with Carrot Sticks
I love hummus, so it’s another of my picks for healthy diet foods! Go easy on the olive oil and skip the pita or chips for dipping, and use carrots instead. Crunchy, rich, and tasty — it’s a perfect dieter’s snack!
9. Home-made Salsa and Baked Corn Chips
I’ve tried to balance this list between snacks and meals, and I can’t resist adding chips and salsa, healthy-style! Choose baked chips over fried, and make the salsa yourself with fresh tomatoes, onions, and more from your own garden, if possible.
10. Turkey Breast with Lettuce and Low-cal Dressing
Looking for a low-cal, low-fat lunch choice? Try a low-fat bread wrap spread with low-cal, low-fat dressing, thin turkey breast, and a little lettuce for texture and crunch. Tasty, satisfying, and perfect for Fall!
With so many healthy diet foods (snacks and meals!) to choose from this Fall, there’s no excuse for wrecking your diet and packing on the pounds. Here’s to keeping your summer beach-ready body all year long, right? Enjoy these snacks and meals, or, do you have another Fall diet-friendly snack or meal to share? Please do!
