You really have nothing to lose and so much to gain by trying nutritional yeast. The benefits of nutritional yeast are many and you're going to love what this stuff can do for you. A lot of health food stores carry it so it's not that hard to find. Since I try to live a healthy lifestyle and exercise quite a bit, I try anything healthy that I can find and that will be able to help me through the lifestyle that I chose. Weirdly, if you do exercise and get sore muscles, nutritional yeast can help alleviate the soreness. What is Nutritional Yeast?

Nutritional yeast is a deactivated form of yeast. The yeast that you put in your bread dough to help it make it rise is activated and that's why it makes your dough rise. Nutritional yeast is different and many refer to it as “vegetarian's dream” It is rich in protein and also contains a plethora of other nutrients that are not found in many vegetarian or even vegan dishes. Your ability to eat it as part of a meat-free meal plan is one of the best benefits of nutritional yeast.

Where Does It Come from?

Nutritional yeast is grown from cane sugar and molasses and after it is harvested, it is either ground up to make a powder or it's made into flakes. The kind that I like is in flake form and actually tastes a little bit like cheese. I sprinkle a tablespoon of it in almost all of my meals.

Nutritional yeast is full of vitamins and trace minerals such as B complex, (mostly B12), trace minerals such as chromium GTF, which is great for people with diabetes, manganese, copper, vanadium, molybdenum and lithium. The actual percentage of Vitamin B5 is 700%, which is clearly more than your recommended amount daily. Nutritional yeast also has 18 different amino acids, which makes it a complete protein. Again for those who are vegetarian or are aiming to lower cholesterol levels and want to stay away from meat products, this would be a great substitute for traditional meats. It is also a great substitute for those trying to stay away from dairy products. I know I mentioned above that the flakes taste like cheese, however, they are dairy-free. They are also gluten-free and non GMO. This type of yeast is very different from brewer’s yeast as it undergoes pasteurization so it is also free of candida albicans.
