Bad πŸ‘Ž Signs You're Eating 🍽 Too Many Carbs 🍝πŸ₯¨ ...

There are some signs you're eating too many carbs. Did you know that health experts recommend that a person who is eating normally and healthily, but not following any specific diet, should be getting between 45 and 65 percent of their daily calories via various carbohydrates? The tricky part about this is that when they say carbohydrates, things like pasta, doughnuts and lots of potato chips aren’t necessarily what they have in mind! The world of carbs can be a confusing path for somebody who isn’t nutritionally savvy, but to make it a little easier for you to understand, here are some sure-fire signs you're eating too many carbs.

1. You’re Feeling Sluggish

(Your reaction) Thank you!

One of the biggest signs you're eating too many carbs is that you feel sluggish. Do you often find that, even when you get a great night’s sleep, you are feeling sluggish and tired out by around 3pm? Eating too many carbs at breakfast and lunch can be the reason for this, especially if you’re eating starches and refined carbs that only provide a short-term boost of energy. Switch your sugary breakfast cereal and mid-morning or a whole wheat bagel!

2. Mood Swings

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Do you have a tendency to flip flop through many different emotions in a single day? Feeling irritable and moody without just cause can also be a result of refined carbohydrates that don’t contain enough fibre. They break down very quickly, causing a fast high and a subsequent fast low, which can really mess with your emotions!

3. Sugar Craving

(Your reaction) Thank you!

If you are always craving your next sugar fix, then you could well be consuming too many carbs. Your brain rewards you for eating sugar by releasing a hormone called dopamine, and the more sugary carbs you eat, the more you will start to crave your next dopamine rush! Tests have shown that this is a similar reaction to that of drugs or alcohol.

4. Hunger Pangs

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Do you feel the constant pang of hunger even when you know you have recently eaten? This is because too many carbs can lower your blood sugar, and the way that your body chooses to display low blood sugar is hunger, no matter that you just inhaled that bowl of pasta!

5. Not Losing Weight

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Are you being careful with what you eat? Well, maybe not quite careful enough. If you aren’t losing as much weight as you want to be, then it’s time to cut down on carbs. Carbs release insulin, which in turn acts to store sugar as fat in your body’s cells.

6. High Cholesterol

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Is your cholesterol high and you aren’t quite sure why? It could be down to your fondness for carbs. If more than 60 percent of your calorie intake per day is taken up by carbohydrates, this will increase triglycerides in your body that encourage higher cholesterol and an increased risk of heart disease. Cut out carbs for a few weeks and see if you experience any drastic changes.
