How to do a Food Detox the Right Way ...

Detoxing is the process by which, through diet and perhaps supplements, you follow a program designed to eliminate harmful toxins from your body. With our modern-paced lifestyles and the amount of processed food eaten, the huge amounts of coffee, alcohol, and tobacco that society consumes every day, it is important to flush out the toxic additives that are slowing our systems down. You need to know how to do a food detox.

1. Classic Signs That You May Need to Detox Are:

• Feeling tired, exhausted all the time; you wake up tired and can’t seem to get going.
• You have trouble sleeping and have restless nights.
• You find it difficult to concentrate.
• You are picking up every cold and flu symptom in a 10-mile radius.

By just adjusting your eating plan, cutting out foods that are bad for us, swopping the couch for a daily walk, upping your water intake and cutting out alcohol – you will almost immediately start to feel better physically.

If you are about to embark on a detox, start with a plan to complete a minimum of 3 days because it’s usually just after that you start to feel better.

• Cut out white bread and baked goods like pies, pastries, cake, scones etc.

• Avoid alcohol completely.

Watch out for refined sugars found in biscuits, muesli and the like.

• Cut back completely on any processed foods. This includes cheese, polony, ready meals, desserts, pies, and cookies.

3. Foods to Eat While Detoxing

These items will help you flush out your system, providing you with the nutrients, anti-oxidants and renowned energy you have been missing out on for so long. You should not be hungry while on a detox, so fill up on lots of fruit and veg, drink plenty of water and listen to your body.

Fruit – Any fruit in its natural or dried form, but do be careful; fruit is packed with loads of natural sugar so don’t overdo it.

Vegetables – This is the Holy Grail of detoxing. Eat lots of leafy greens, eat whatever you like in whatever quantity you like of most low-calorie vegetables - just be careful in preparation. Steam, stir-fry or roast vegetables in a sprinkling of virgin olive oil. Use fresh herbs, lemon, and spices for taste; just be careful of too much salt.

Oats – A great low GI way to start the day. Opt for honey instead of sugar, pile on raspberries, blueberries, banana, strawberries and organic live culture yogurt instead of milk.

Organic milk products that are hormone free are okay in small doses.

Pulses – Beans, lentils, unsalted nuts.

Rice -Rice cakes, brown rice, oatcakes, and tofu.

Fish - Organic or free-range fish or seafood products. Ensure that you have purchased a fish product that is completely free from harmful toxins like metals.
