7 Important Reasons to Get over Your Cellulite Fears ...

I’m here to help all of you who curse your thighs as I once did with some ways to get over your cellulite fears! I was so obsessed with cellulite, as many women are today, that I refused to sit down in a way that would show my “cottage cheese” thighs. I would sit on my hands, cross my legs away from people, lay certain ways in a bathing suit, etc. I did almost anything it took so others wouldn't see my cellulite. Why did I think that they would somehow not like me or think less of me if they saw it? Me hiding it didn’t make it go away and I was too naïve to realize that it is natural. Sadly, I starved myself trying to get rid of it, and once I actually did, I was more self-confident in my clothes, but so much less healthy and less happy than I was when I had cellulite to start with. Many perfectly healthy women, myself included, have a little cellulite here and there. Here’s why you need to get over your cellulite fears and get into real health instead, which is being fit, healthy, happy and body confident!

It Can Be Hormonal

One of the main reasons to get over your cellulite fears is because cellulite can be a simple hormonal issue. I know once I went through major hormonal life changes such as first getting my menstrual, going through menopause, and now post-menopause, I developed more cellulite than I did at other times in my life. The production of estrogen can influence cellulite production, because estrogen tells the body to store more fat. This means that your fat cells, where cellulite resides, become more prominent. To reduce gaining unnecessary weight during these times, you should focus on a healthy diet of lean protein, complex carbs and lots of green vegetables. If you’re eating that way and still have cellulite, then stop worrying about it. This diet balances your hormones but doesn’t necessarily take away preexisting cellulite. It doesn’t mean you are fat. It is just a skin symptom of hormonal issues that most women deal with. Cellulite can also be caused by a poor thyroid function, so be sure to keep yourself healthy and leave the rest up to nature!

Most of Us Have It

Did you know 98% of women have cellulite? Why can’t we just accept it as a physical characteristic that our bodies are preserving energy stores instead of it making us think we’re worthless and fat? This is nonsense, ladies! If 98% of us have it, then that should tell us one thing: it’s normal!

3

Men Have It Too

Most men do have more muscle mass than women, which means they naturally carry less cellulite, but men can still have it! Women are more prone to developing cellulite due to our sex genes, which are naturally prepared to store fat for pregnancy or for famine. Researchers are still looking into this issue to find out more, but in the meantime, look at those little wrinkles as a natural female trait just like your period. Though you may not think it’s the best thing in the world, it’s just a fact of life!

4

It Doesn’t Mean You’re Unhealthy

Cellulite doesn’t mean you’re unhealthy or overweight. It only means your body has stored fat fibers into tissues that appear as cellulite does. Since you can’t travel inside your body and change this, focus on getting plenty of water, healthy foods and exercising regularly instead. This is the best way to get rid of excess weight, while maintaining muscle, fueling your body appropriately and flushing out your lymph system.

5

You Could Just Be Dehydrated

Did you know that some women have cellulite because they are dehydrated? Skin cells that don’t get enough water become dimpled, much like your fingers look like raisins if they stay in the bathtub too long. It is simply a matter of water influence, and when you flush your body with plenty of hydrating foods and beverages, then your skin cells will look healthier and plumper. This includes the ones on your face and your thighs! Drinking water flushes wastes from the lymph system, whereas diuretics like water pills or caffeine that dehydrate you can actually make your cellulite worse.

It Deprives You of Body Confidence

If you’re obsessed with your cellulite, then your body confidence is significantly decreased. You know what that means? You’re missing out on one of the greatest gifts your body can give you: confidence! Be proud that your body fuels your workouts, gets you to your job, allows you to embrace relationships with others, and takes care of you throughout the day. Your body is the framework for your heart. Appreciate how awesome it is, cellulite and all!

7

Men Don’t Care

If you think men care if you have a few dimples on your thighs, then guess again! Most men want a real woman, and real women have cellulite somewhere on their bodies. Men know this, and they don’t care. If they do care, then tell them to hitch a ride out of your life! Most of them care more about how you feel in your body and how you portray body confidence. I’m not saying that just because your man thinks you’re gorgeous, it will automatically make you love your cellulite. I know this isn’t true, but it is something to keep in mind so you don’t get obsessed with your thighs and forget how awesome he thinks you are just for being you.

I will admit, I don’t love seeing my cellulite, but I don’t fear having it like I used to. I know it’s there, I know I’m at a great weight and I know I’m happy with my body for the first time in years. So, instead of cursing my thighs, I celebrate them because they have sure put up with a lot from me the last ten years of obsessing! Get fearless and flaunt your fabulous self because your body confidence depends on it. Have you learned to accept a body image issue like fearing cellulite for the first time? Share it!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Along with my cellulite "fears" I also was a bit embarrassed by my stretch marks that are only on my butt. I never understood it! I worked out I had a great body but it was there & it was bringing me down. Eventually I said you know, I'm doing the best thing for my body so that's all I can do -- stretch marks & cellulite included

It's women in the media who are airbrushed to perfection that are so discouraging. It's hard to love your cellulite when the media portrays women to have these perfect bodies

Here's the trick, if you want to wear anything that shows off those (what we think as) undesirable areas, a little tan goes a long ways! I have a fair complexion naturally, and I notice that when I don't have a little color; it's more noticeable! Secondly, lighting! Bad lighting will create shadows that tend to show it off even worse (those with cellulite). So check yourself out with less bright light, and you'll walk out more confident :)

This article made me feel a lot better about the cellulite on the back of my legs and the stretch marks on my thighs. I do a lot of healthy things, and I'm not overweight, but I always thought that those two things on my body meant that I just wasn't doing enough. Now I know it's normal! It's all about becoming a woman. Now I actually feel really good about my extra body marks.

I was never over weight but I didn't excersice either, my boyfriend never asked me to but over summer I lost 5 inches off my waist and the look on his face was priceless!! He wouldn't stop kissing my new found curves :)

I used to be REALLY overweight, then I lost over 30 kg in a year (and gained around 10 kg back the subsequent year). Now I'm still a little overweight, and I have stretch marks as well as cellulite. I have a lot of cellulite on my butt, and I'm really, really scared of what my future boyfriend/husband will think of it during sex!
